|
The team of 9B form students from "Petru Movila" Lyceum participated in "My City And Me" Learning Circle collaborating with students from Samara (Russia), Lipetsk (Russia), Dondusheni (Moldova), Punjab (India), Meknes (Morocco). We had to develop 6 projects: "School Traditions", "A Visit To A Special Place", "For A Sustainable City", "City Image", "Where Do Street Names Come From", "Cultural Heritage". This work allowed us to learn more interesting facts about our city, Chisinau, to feel its beaty, to get involved in its problems. Besides, it allowed us to get more interested in global events.

Cultural Exchange Package Project
Moldovan Cultural Exchange Package landed in Orlando. American students received Moldovan flags, hand-made posters about Moldova, Moldovan food and traditions, personal letters of our students about their life, families, schools and friends, our traditional souvenirs and sweets, as well our "cozonac" as we packed the box during Easter holidays.
The students so loved our cultural package, our video and pictures! They were so excited to read the letters, look at the cultural items, and sample the tasty treats! Moldovan students also decided to share the letters, presents, cultural items from the USA with their peers from Causeni. They organized an exibition, as the dissemination of this project. |
The pupils from "B.P.Hasdeu"Lyceum, Drochia , have engaged in 7 iEARN projects
This year has been a fruitful one for the pupils from the lyceum "B.P.-Hasdeu" Drochia. We have engaged in 7 iEARN projects: two Learning Circle Projects- Global Issues: Education and My Hero. The pupils also participated in Our Story Book, One Day in the Life, EFL Youth Voices and Global Youth Service Day.
Through the projects, they learned about different cultures and found out about the extracurricular activities in other countries. The pupils wrote about one day in the life and found out that their day doesn't differ very much from that of the Indonesian pupils. They described their national heroes and now they are waiting to read the stories created by their peers. iEARN Projects is a good opportunity to learn how to work in teams and to develop their digital skills. They had the possibility to have skype sessions and exchange comments on the forum. They discussed their findings in the class and I think they liked the experience. |

"My Hero Learning Circles" Project
"This year I became an Access teacher and I wanted to involve my Access pupils in IEARN Projects too. We have chosen My Hero Learning Circles Project, which is an easy but interesting project for pupils. My pupils collaborated with their peers in Student Forum, presenting themselves as a class and discussing what a hero is and who may be a hero.
Due to this project, my pupils have found out that they all have someone to admire and that there is a person whose path they want to follow. At the end of the project, they created video essays about their heroes and presented them to the IEARN Community. Their work was appreciated by the project coordinator and they all received certificates of excellence. I am proud of my pupils." Natalia Rata, iEARN educator |
The students from ''Onisifor Ghibu"Lyceum, participated in an Exchange Card Project
This Christmas the students from " Onisifor Ghibu"Lyceum , USA, Taiwan, Slovenia, Russia, and schools from Moldova( Zimbreni, Transnistria and Chisinau) had the opportunity to participate in an Exchange Card Project.
The first step was to get the cards ready, and we did that back in December, then with the kids we went to the post office and sent them to the destination. The second step was the most difficult one, as we had to wait to receive the cards from our partners, and we only got them in January. The kids had great fun opening the letters, reading them and finding out about other students experiences at their schools. The project is a great way to learn how to build relationships, how to collaborate, to create wonderful cards to be proud of. |
The first session of the project “ Culture in a Box”
The project “ Culture in a Box” has recently closed his first session of this year. The 7th-grade pupils from town Cantemir have successfully accomplished all the tasks of the project, got a lot of experience and pleasure. The first challenge was the country we were going to collaborate, Taiwan, a far away country and totally different from many other countries of Europe, this made them more eager to collaborate. From the first task, they found out a lot about Taiwan school life; subjects, hobbies, favorite music, school clubs, etc.

A colorful start of March with our school partners from North Carolina
|
We had such a colorful start of March! Together with our school partners from North Carolina we exchanged photo and video introductions by email and via Facebook. We sent cultural packages to partner schools from across the Atlantic by mail (Christmas cards, Valentine cards, Moldovan mărțișori) and we organised Skype sessions to exchange fun facts about North Carolina and Moldova. Even Secretary of State Elaine Marshall wore our Moldova mărțișor and it looked wonderful on her blue jacket! So far our students sang songs in English together, shared video handshakes, sent letters by mails, wore national clothes and posted lots and lots of wonderful pictures on Facebook!

Students from Cantemir, Criuleni, Tiraspol and Drochia created hand made symbols of our iEARN-Moldova community
iEARN teachers and students from Cantemir, Criuleni, Tiraspol and Drochia created hand made symbols of our iEARN-Moldova community which will travel to Australia by post !
Next year iEARN will celebrate 30 years since it started. From 1988 to 2018, the organisation has grown to include 140 countries, 30 languages, 50,000 educators and 2 million youth. What a great achievement! As part of the celebrations, iEARN Australia would like to coordinate a quilt to represent all the countries. Moldova will also contribute with a few squares that typify our country. |
Students from “Petru Movila” Lyceum, Chisinau celebrated Flying Kites Day
It was the second time when 8V students from “Petru Movila” Lyceum, Chisinau, celebrated Flying Kites Day. They paid tribute to Janusz Korczak, his heroic deed and his "Magna Carta" of the rights of the child. March 22, 2018 provided a break from clouds and snow although significant additional snow was expected and the temperature was unseasonably cold: - 2ºC . The wind was 5 m/s. But the mood was so high! The event gave us an opportunity to run and jump in the snow, hold ice in our hands and throw snow balls. And it was on the background of bright flying kites. Mother’s Day is celebrated in Moldova on the 14th of May. We learnt that in Arabic countries it was celebrated on March 21, and responding to Ruty Hotzen’s suggestion of celebrating the holiday, we found that it was necessary for us to say wonderful words of thanks to our mothers and to celebrate the holiday as often as possible.

Students from "N.M.Spataru" Lyceum took part in the Peace Crane Project
Students from lyceum N.M.Spataru took part in the Peace Crane Project and got a letter with thanks from the organizators of the project. Their photos were posted among the other photos from different countries around the world. They learned information about the nuclear bomb attack during the Second World War and a very sad story about the Japan girl who struggled for her life making the cranes. They also learned how to make cranes and organized a special event: "We want to live in peace, we are against the nuclear weapons."
In July of this year, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons was adopted by the UN, and ICAN won the Nobel Peace Prize. These events demonstrate that the aspiration to abolish nuclear weapons is growing. The project aims to express our sympathy for victims of nuclear weapons, and to consider peace while folding paper cranes with a prayer for world peace. |

LOCAL HISTORY PROJECT (iEARN students from Căușeni)
With a group of 11-13 year old students we have actively gotten involved in iEARN Local History Project. Our international partner is Pristine Private School from UAE, Dubai. My students are so excited to get new information, new messages both from the teacher, and from the partner students. They have prepared their introduction video ( their first experience, maybe not the best, but they worked hard!). We're sharing informations about the historical facts of our town Causeni, also about Moldova. Dubai students have already sent us several presentations and videos about their history, museum visits. Thanks to iEARN my students got more motivation to study English bot just for their homework and marks, but also for their intercultural development and experience. GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY (iEARN students from Singereii Noi)
During the study year 2015-2016, the students of the Th.L. „A. Russo” from village Singerei Noi, Singerei, and me, their English teacher, Mariana GORBULI, we participanted at the iEARN Projects and took part in the celebration of the GYSD with our project of volunteering „My School, My Community and Me”. Although they were only nine students of the VIII-th grade, they worked hard and with a great pleasure, begining with the photo introduction and ending with the project video. So, from the very first day of our decision to celebrate GYSD, we planned to do it in great action and began with planting flowers and trees in the school yard, and continued with helping an old, blind and lonely woman from the village with household duties and gardenings. As a result, our participation in GYSD brought us the second place in the final video selection, and a very big satisfaction. We were very happy and pleased not only for having received the second place in the contest, but for having helped someone who needed our help and, especially, for having improved our English language, collaborating with other project participants, as the iEARN motto says: „Learn with the world, not just about it!” for which things we want to thank the iEARN Community again and again!!!

ME BECOMES WE. LEARN 2 CHANGE PROJECT
|
In September 2016, several active and motivated students from American Language Center embarked on a 4-month pilot social action project within Global Teenager Project entitled “ME Becomes WE. Learn 2 Change”. They could bring out their own personality and talents and found out how they can be helpful to others. The participating classes from Moldova, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Nepal, Romania and Canada planned and carried out social activities together. Following the motto: “Actions speak louder than words” students took initiatives to make a difference in their schools, neighbourhood and community. By working together and completing the challenges the students increased understanding of people's living conditions and lifestyles across the world, as well as raised awareness about the responsibilities they need to take in order to assure that we and the members of our community live decently. Students from Bulgarian Lyceum participate in the "Daffodils and Tulips" Project
Galina Ciorba involved her 5-7 grade students from Bulgarian Lyceum in the "Daffodils and Tulips" iEARN Project since December 11, 2016. She is working on this international project under the supervision of Project Coordinator Ruty Hotzen from Israel. Galina's students planted 20 bulbs of tulips and 10 bulbs of daffodils. They made the investigation and answered the questions about Moldova's geographical position, climate, soil, etc. As part of the "Daffodils and Tulips" Project students in different parts of the world plant bulbs together and collect data on various parameters (latitude, longitude, sunlight, temperature etc.) and track when they blossom. Classrooms around the world choose Daffodil and/or Tulip bulbs to plant during the same week in November. Students will be asked to collect temperature data throughout the experiment and report to the group – in addition they will report when the blooms appear etc. The project can be as involved or as simple as your class needs it to be.

Our Rivers, Our World120 iEARN-Moldova students, enrolled in the English Access Micro scholarship Program, participated in the "Our Rivers, Our World" Learning Circle Project. The problem of pollution is one of the main struggles in Moldova nowadays, given that because of the lack of resources, the authorities cannot address the problem thoroughly. Thus, the rivers from Moldova are in a deplorable state, the water being dirty and the river banks not being taken care of. This way, Access students from Soroca, Balti, Ungheni, Anenii Noi, Taraclia and Vulcanesti took action and implemented projects for improving the state of the rivers from their communities and for raising awareness among the citizens of their towns and cities.

“Talking Kites Around the World”On March, 20 iEARN Moldova students participated in the ”Talking Kites around the World” Project, a universal movement enhancing the important values, such as tolerance, acceptance of the "other", love, co-existence, listening, choosing dialog over force, universal solidarity etc. among participants from all over the world. Students from 6 different regions made kites as a massive tribute dedicated to advancing the cultural and social dialogue, a symbol of bridging the gap and understanding the "other." While making kites each group has used original shapes, a rainbow of colors and unusual decorative materials; such way transmitting worldwide their messages. Thus, the romantic kite of students from Ungheni, the happiest Sponge Bob kite of Balti, the lovable kites of Varnita/Bender students or the creative ones from Cahul, Chisinau and Comrat flew into the sky to tell everybody how beautiful the world should be. This celebration inspired iEARN teacher Rodica Aculov from "Mihai Eminescu" Lyceum, Cimislia, who motivated her students to decorate and fly Talking Kites. The most wonderful messages were sent by the kindergarten kids from Cimislia who drew valuable pictures of a world with peace they hope, dream and want to live forever.

I was glad to involve my students to take part in a couple of iEARN projects which encourage them to become global citizens since iEARN tackle important global issues and seek for definite solutions from the youth part across the globe. Furthermore, it may be a strong basis for students in communicative skills and in improving their English language skills as they engage in cross-cultural dialogue with their peers from different parts of the world. They can also get valuable insights into various cultures.Inviting my students to participate in "My Hero" Project, convinced me how usefu l it was, because it helped to develop the abilities of writing a coherent text in English, applying their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, arranging a text and images on the page, reading and recording a text using the digital tools, learned how to formulate and express their opinions, both orally and in writing, took photos, created a movie, selecting the suitable images; learned how to use a blog. All these activities contributed to the development of linguistic, communicative, cultural, interdisciplinary, civic and methodological (digital) skills, increasing students’ imagination, creativity and critical thinking. Involving my students in the Project "One Day in the Life" they received the chance to exchange photographs/images describing days in their lives, and then make cross-cultural comparisons. Students have the opportunity to discuss aspects of a typical day (like visiting the market or going to school) or document special days (like vacations, birthdays, celebrations, or holidays.) Although writing is often an important component of student participation, in this case, English proficiency is not required, a thing that encourages students to participate and that allows them improve their English.
